Here is the video from our recent Build 45 Release Webinar. The presentation slides are available as an attachment at the bottom.
Static Publish was in MooD Enterprise version 15 but removed in v16. What should people be using instead and is there any plan to add in additional functionality in the future?
In our investigations around the static publish feature, we have identified two big use cases:
One is to share a linear story about a model you have produced. PowerPoint synchronizer and Documents synchronizer are both powerful tools for sharing your story in that way.The other is to allow a user to explore the model in a non-linear way, at their own pace through any route, and we're working out how we might attack that and what the value is above and beyond the Documents synchronizer functionality.
If you have any use case or requirement that the Documents synchronizer (and other functionality) doesn't resolve, there is a discussion in the Support Portal that you can reply to. The more agreement and the more value in what is required, the easier it is to develop the functionality that would help you most.
You mentioned that MODAF and TOGAF blueprints already exist and that we'll have ArchiMate launched. When/where can I get it?
An initial capability for ArchiMate will be released soon; it's in the final stages of being sanity checked before we make it available. It will be available in the Support Portal. If you have an urgent requirement, please get in touch through your Customer Account Manager.
Where do you see the product going 'beyond the hexagons' over the next few years?
The value in MooD is adding structure and rigour to a messy and disconnected world; anything we can do to help people add structure and rigour easily, in a modern look and feel, to give meaning to information, feels like a good thing to do. It may be more web-based, it may make it easier for people to highlight and share key information. There may also be greater interoperability between platforms, because open standards are important to us. Telling stories about models enhances the ability to visualise the connectedness of the models we build.
You mentioned a "modernised and responsive MAE experience". Is that responsive design and flexible models or a new approach to pixel-perfect design?
We're still having conversations to work out what that means for us. Some of it is definitely responsive design approaches, but we need to get the right value for effort on this.
When merging repositories, version control is a major headache. Is there any way of giving greater insight into what has been changed?
One of the aims is to enhance an ability to "maintain a single version of the truth integrity", but it's not something we have explored in depth yet but we're thinking about it actively and we welcome engagement from anyone in what we might be able to mean by that.
Do you have any intention to tackle issues like performance at scale in the product?
We have Data Tables functionality. It is the ability to access hundreds of thousands or even millions of rows with much more performance than other approaches. Some of this might require a different way of thinking, or even small amounts of retraining, to get used to a different approach. At the moment it's a little bit difficult for small organisations because the data has to be held in an appropriate database to be usable, but we're looking at ways of improving that for people who aren't data experts in the future to leverage this capability. If this might be useful to you, please get in touch through your Customer Account Manager or the Support team.
Is there any plan to do a Network Chart equivalent that looks at the data as a whole rather than just centring on specific elements?
We're unsure if this is referring to an automatic way of showing the connectedness of different element types (e.g. an automatic metamodel) or simply showing colossal numbers of elements at once. Anything in this area is not being looked at right now, so please feel free to start the discussion in the support portal discussion area and we'll take a look at it with a little more clarity. If you are trying to achieve something right now with existing functionality, get in touch with Support. Customer Account Managers can champion specific features for you as well if you want to have a more detailed discussion about anything specific.
How do I get more involved in the future of the product and submit requests?
The Support Portal area has a specific place for raising requests, and there is a discussion forum to ask questions or give thoughts as well. Other people can also reply to you on there so it's better than a support ticket as you can have more of a discussion with other people and get involved. Feel free to ask or talk about anything on there (it's moderated) and the more people who talk about and support specific areas of the product the more obvious it is that there's value for change and therefore the more likely it is that we'll be investing in that area.
