"Extended meta model comparison"- SAT and the "Compare Repositories" in the merge options
One of the uses of the "Extended meta model comparison"-SAT is to be able to compare two repositories in a more "user friendly" fashion than the "Compare Repositories" feature allows (you can copy/paste snippets so you can order them and compare them to similar snippets from other repositories).
The process of comparing repositories is not very user friendly and it is something you have to do quite often when you work with a "branch-trunk" style parallell development of different pieces of a larger repository.
I would want a feature that allows me to see differences between two repositories on a "meta model" level and in a format which can be more readily analysed than what MooD generates now. For instance, to know what aliases are allowed in a relationship pre and post a merge, the easiest way to do this right now would (as far as I can tell) take the extended meta model reports of two repositories, focus on the sections which deal with relationships (in the "Field Summary" tab) and compare them by hand. To run with this example, I would be far more helped by a report which, when run, gives me a nice, readable breakdown (which could preferably be brought out into, say, excel or some such) of what relationships only exist in one repository or the other, which are in both (by UID) and what the difference is between them in terms of for instance what alias' they can be used for.
This is extendable to themes and I am sure there are other areas of repository comparison from a "base elements" perspective which would benefit from some more easily accessible mechanisms for analysing them ahead and after of actual merges.
