Usage of a "transfer" theme (17681)

As a user of MooD, using primary element themes, where there are multiple alias types within a single theme, I want to make it easier to convert betwen element types, in order to reduce the pain of creating something with the wrong initial element type.

The current solution is to create a "dummy" transfer theme to move elements into and then out of, to force the conversion. A more elegant option would be an in-place conversion.
