Business Architect Needs to Works at Windows Scaling Other Then 100%
CompletedAs a Solution Build
I want to be able to use Business Architect with a Windows scaling set higher than 100%
So that I can use my high resolution monitor at its optimal resolution and still be able to use the BA UI
Benefits are
- I do not have to remember to set the scaling to 100% every time I use a new monitor
- I do not have to squint to see the text
- I do not have to use a sub-optimal monitor resolution, which makes the image unsharp
- when training new MooDlers, I do have to go through the embarrassing discussion about why BA only works at 100% scaling and how this affects how they use all other programs on their PC
- BA will enter the realm of modern Windows applications that align with the way Windows works. :)
Acceptance criteria is that BA works the same regardless how Windows scaling is set
Scope: This problem comes up at some point with all customers.
Priority is normal/high. I have previously thought of this as a normal priority, but now that more and more monitors move beyond HD resolution, I would say that this is high priority.

Hi Peter, we have actually spent a lot of time in MooD 16 working towards this goal.
The delete button image looks like a problem you will encounter if you change the DPI without also logging out (or you were in MooD 15?)
There are still some remaining bits of UI which don't work, most notably the Matrix preview. This will be a large job and is an existing Story in the Backlog.
I personally work with MooD 16 on a high DPI monitor with 2 normal monitors and find that it is workable. Some dialogs must be opened on your main monitor but I believe ALL are usable. Another option is to use 2 monitors and set the low-res monitor as 'main'. This means your high DPI monitor will be scaled up by Windows (it obviously won't look as crisp though.)
Hopefully we will get chance to make further improvements in future.
Matt.

Hi Matt,
I have not tried working with BA on a monitor with anything else than 100% scaling after a reboot. My normal use case is that my laptop is sleeping/hibernated, then I dock it with a new monitor and power it up. Because it is a new monitor, Windows decides to change scaling to 125-150%. Then I get annoyed with BA/Windows, change the scaling to 100% and reboot.
I will try to setup my home monitor to 125% scaling, reboot, and see how it works. However, this still does now solve the use case where I use different monitors, and Windows decides to change the scaling per monitor.

Hi Peter, another workaround which works for all applications is to set your laptop to a lower resolution and set it to 100%. Then when you attach another monitor they will both be at 100% and all applications will work nicely. This also means that when you drag a window from one monitor to another they don't suddenly become massive!

I have used Window's recommended scaling for a while now - typically 125%. I have been using the same monitors. And I have rebooted Windows before I start working in MooD.
I still have lots of problems with incorrect scaled things in BA. There are some specific things that do not work, like the examples above. But also when I look at the entire application there are many things that are not scaled, which makes them look out of proportion - making the whole thing look weird.
So, my conclusion for now is that BA (16.0.032.02) does not work properly with Windows scaling. I am switching back to 100% and hope for a better experience with new versions of BA.
