Writing in drop down boxes filtering from the content of the set

As a solution developer and end user experience nerd

I want to be able to write in Drop Down boxes to narrow down the choices for end users.

So That I can achieve a better user experience when a drop down box has a large number of elements or other information in it.

Benefits: More user-friendly experience, where the user can use the drop down boxes the way they expect (i.e. if there is a large set of data displayed in it and they know what they want, they can "search" for it).

Acceptance Criteria

1. Ability to write in drop down-boxes and what you write narrows down/filters the content.

I know this can be achieved with single element picker, but sometimes they do not look and behave as nicely/as is the "norm" for the solution - the end user might not know what is an element and what is "another thing" and having two different drop down menu types is less than optimal from a user experience perspective.

  Basically what is known as "lazy loading" in other places. 

  We use the "Multiple element picker" for anything with this issue (so we do not see it), but I can only second that it would be nice to have this feature for dropdowns as well.

  Totally agree, it would be great to have "lazy loading" like functionality for dropdowns.

  Would also be really great in element pickers to have the ability from dropdowns to modify the item text.

  That would make it easier to use element pickers for filtering by parent (as a proxy for element type, often the element name of the parent isn't something i'd like to show the end user), and to include contextual information in the filter list. For instance in an application browser i would like to prefix all of my dropdown elements with the number of applications that this filter applies to using a smart column, AFAIK i can currently only do that with dropdown lists.
