Aggregation Matrix
Aggregation Matrices can have multiple facts, dimensions, and levels. This makes them more flexible than Smart Columns. They are designed to be displayed on models or to drive graphs.
Aggregation Matrices typically display numeric calculations. They can be used to display other content such as text and date, but cannot be used for memo fields. Instead, add the memo field as a datasheet column to the Aggregation Matrix or create a Datasheet Matrix with a series of Smart Columns.
How to Open an Aggregation Matrix
Open an Aggregation Matrix the same way you would open any Matrix:
- Expand out the Matrix library in the Explorer bar
- Open the group the Aggregation Matrix is in – The default option is General Matrices
- Open the Matrix by
- Double clicking on the Aggregation Matrix you want to open or
- Right clicking on the Matrix and selecting Open or
- Clicking on the Matrix, then pressing Ctrl + O on your keyboard
How to Set Up Aggregation Matrix
- Expand out the Matrix library in the Explorer bar.
- Open the group the Aggregation Matrix will go in – The default option is General Matrices.
- Click “New” and select an Element to own the Matrix.
- Select Aggregation in the Matrix Type popup and click "OK".
- Give the Matrix a name and a quick summary.
- Open the Source Query tab.
- Use the Query Builder to set up a query.
- Refer to Queries and the Query Buildler for more information.
- Open the Designer tab.
- Click "Add…" to open the Fact Builder.
- Add the required facts using the Fact Builder.
- For more information on the Fact Builder, refer to A Closer Look at Fact Builder.
- Configure how the results of the facts are displayed by clicking on the blue text e.g. alignment, wrapping, icons etc.
- If required, click "add a level" and "add a dimension" to aggregate content in the Aggregation Matrix.
- Ensure the Elements you want to aggregate with are visible so can be used by the Aggregation Matrix. If they are not visible, click on the eye icon.
- Use the Edit Columns tab to add datasheet columns to the Aggregation Matrix.
- Refer to Creating a Data Sheet Matrix for information on how to do this.
- Click "Execute" in the Matrix group on the Ribbon's Home tab.
The below clips are examples of how to create an aggregation matrix.
Creating a very simple aggregation matrix:
Creating a slightly more complex aggregation matrix:
Aggregation
A key part of Aggregation Matrices is aggregating the Business Landscape. In MooD it has two implementations: Aggregation Matrices and Smart Columns, both of which use a similar design interface.
Complex aggregations benefit from a range of caching options and supporting technologies such as the Manage Aggregation Cache synchronizer.
Designer
The Designer tab includes a test area and a visualisation of the Aggregation Matrix. The test area allows you to see the matrix populated with data from your repository. The visual representation has three key areas: Source Query, Facts, and Dimension/Levels. For a more detailed explanation of the aggregation designer see Aggregation Matrix.
