"Information Shown" on Matrix Columns
CompletedAs a solution builder, I want to set “information shown” for the contents of a column in matrices – especially columns that show a relationship – so that I provide a better UX for the web user and provide additional functionality for the web user when they are editing the contents of the matrix.
Currently, a matrix column that shows a relationship gives the web user access to ALL elements of the relationship target types, including administrative elements that should never be shown to the web user, such as elements used to document the meta-model and top-level placeholder elements required for SAT imports. This provides a poor experience for the web user who does not understand why these elements are shown.
Here are a couple of common cases where it is impossible to use a matrix:
- When I have multiple elements hierarchies of the same type and only want the web user to choose elements from one of the hierarchies.
- When I have elements that are marked “inactive” with a field value meaning that web users should not be allowed to see them.
If the matrix column gets an “information shown” configuration, as many action panels already have, it would be possible to select which elements the web user can choose.
The benefit will many hours saved because I do not have to create elaborate workarounds to provide the web user with similar functionality. The benefit will be increased value of the matrices because they can be used in more scenarios. The benefit will be a better experience for the web user because they are only presented with the elements that make sense.
Acceptance criteria is that on an editable matrix column that is a relationship, it will be possible to set a query so that the results of the query are the only elements the web user can choose.
Specifically, I badly needed this feature for a solution I am currently building for JLR. Generally, my colleagues and I need this feature for every single solution we build.
Priority is high leaning towards critical.
