Consistent Naming Of Measure Options in Query Builder
In the query builder, there are these options for using measures:
The names of the first six options are inconsistent, incorrect, and confusing. When I started using MooD this was one of the more difficult things to learn, because I needed to learn how to read and interpret the options correctly. Today, when I am teaching new MooDlers, I always go through how to interpret these options correctly.
I propose that these options are renamed to make intuitive to use.
These are the problems I see with the current naming:
- Both Measure Elements and Container Elements are Primary Elements, so in this context the term “from Primary Element” is ambiguous.
- It looks like they all find Measure Instance elements because they all start with “Find Instances”. However, that is wrong; only half of them find Measure Instance elements.
- All start with “Find Instances” using the plural form of “Instance”. However, it looks like half of them should have used the genitive form instead.
This is my proposal for new names:
And now the formalities:
As a solution builder and MooD trainer
I want the measure options in the query builder renamed
So that it becomes intuitive to use them
The benefits are that it will be easier (less time consuming) to learn how to use them, to teach how to use them, and to use them
Acceptance criteria is that a newbe MooDler, who just learned about the measure concepts, will be able to use the measure options in the query builder without further explanation.
