Editing Data Table Elements

By default, no user can edit Data Table Elements. This is to reduce the risk of the original external data being incorrectly or mistakenly altered. To enable editing of Data Table Elements the field permissions need to be set in the permissions dashboard.

When editability is enabled, only certain field types are supported: String, Whole Number, Fractional Number, Date/DateTime, and Formatted Text. Any changes made to the Data Elements will not produce Events in the Audit Trail.

Users can only update existing rows inside Business Architect and Active Enterprise panels; they cannot insert new rows or delete content. In Business Architect, it is not possible to use a Data Elements definition window to edit the values. Instead, use datasheets, timelines, bar charts, etc. to edit the Data Elements.

Data that has been edited relies on the users to validate it using validation panels. The editors in Active Enterprise are set to the configuration supported by the columns in the source table. This means that any strings longer than the source tables allow will silently truncate. For example, if a column in SQL is set at a max of 10 characters and "Hello World!" is entered, the source table will store "Hello Worl".

Similarly, any constraints or set data types on the SQL table won't be detected. A validation panel will need to be added to ensure the data will be accepted. For example, if a column is constrained to be between the numbers 5 and 10, then an invalid number can be entered but won't be accepted by the source column. The same would happen if a letter was entered to a column set to the whole number data type.
