Source Query
All aggregations start from a Source Query. The Source Query finds the initial content that you then expand upon by adding dimensions and or levels that find additional related content that you want to use.
How to Add a Source Query
Clicking on 'Source Query' in the designer will take you to the Source Query tab. Alternatively, you can click directly on the Source Query tab to open it.
From this tab you can create, edit and test the query using the query builder.
Dimensions and Levels
Aggregation Matrices can have multiple dimensions on both axes. Each dimension can include any number of levels and starts from the dimension's Source Query. Each level adds a 'find' block and an optional 'where' condition to find related content you want to use in the Aggregation.
The first level in a dimension builds on the Source Query. This allows you to start again in each dimension. Each subsequent level builds on the preceding level.
Dimensions and levels can be hidden from the Matrix by clicking on the eye icon. The excluded levels can be used as 'stepping stones' to access other content you want to include.
Dimensions and levels bring additional content into the Aggregation Matrix on either the X or Y axis. The visible dimensions and levels can group and total across any preceding visible dimensions and levels. This builds up what is shown along the tables axes.
Clicking on the level name in the visualization opens up a dialogue box which allows you to edit the level and control the visibility of totals.
How to Add a Dimension
Decide whether you want to add a dimension to the X or Y axis of your Matrix. Then, in the design interface, click "add a dimension" on the axis you want your dimension to be on.
How to Add a Level
- Add a dimension
- Click "add a level" to add a level to the dimension you just created
- Add a Find block to
- Group your content or
- Add a stepping stone to access other content to aggregate your Elements by
- Ensure the eye icon is toggled on for the block you want to aggregate with
Adding a level is demonstrated in the short video clip below:
How to Manipulate Dimensions and Levels
- On the dimension/level you want to manipulate, click on the cog next to the "add a level" option
- Select the manipulation option you want to use
- Click "Remove the last level" to delete a level
- You can't delete an intermediate level as these are used as 'stepping stones' to get to the current aggregation of Elements
- Click "Flip axis" to move the dimension to the other axis
- Click "Move left/right/up/down" to shift the dimension in either direction
- Click "Remove dimension" to delete the dimension entirely
- Click "Remove the last level" to delete a level
